Does anyone know of a good source for pine tongue and groove panelling? I remember that my grandparents house on Cape Cod is full of that stuff. I would like to use something similar as a ceiling in my garage (and floor of the storage loft area). It does not seem to be common in California. Anyone know a good source or online supply? It does not even have to be pine really, but cannot be too expensive per sq ft.

I spent many years on Cape Cod also, and I too admire the knotty pine cottages of the 50's and 60's, and have tried to replicate some of that charm in my little houses here in Virginia. In the East most of the pine is Eastern White Pine. In your area it will likely be Ponderosa Pine. The Ponderosa tends to be prettier I think with the reddish tinge and fewer big knots. Two sources of t & g white pine are Bear Creek Lumber in Oregon at 800-597-7191 their web site is bearcreeklumber.com and they ship direct nationwide. the other source is through lumber liquidators 1-877-mill-direct, they have stores in California, and a bunch of other states, and will ship direct. Their web page is lumberliquidators.com. I've dealt with both these companies successfully, and they both advertise in Fine Homebuilding, which is how I found out about them. Their prices are way less than my local lumber yard or big box, even when I pay the shipping. If you're considering an attic floor with t & g I'd suggest 2x6 spruce. It's vee-grooved on the bottom to give you a nice ceiling for downstairs, and milled flat on the upper surface, you can just sand it and lay down a couple area rugs.
Have fun,
