I am new to the forum, and need some help. I have a 45 y.o. house with an exposed beam cieling. The cieling is finished off with plasterboard which extends outside under the eaves. The overhang is at least 4 ft. or more (as in the car port). Unfortunately, the plasterboard is a constant problem to maintain against moisture (I live near the N. California coast). The paper tape is always coming loose, and the plasterbaord looks bad. Since the plaster board is structurally OK, is there a good material that can be applied to its surface to seal it completely?

Probably it would be best to replace the stuff exposed to the weather with something else, but if it's a reasonably moisture-resistant form of board you can re-do the seams with fiberglass tape and setting-type compound.
It's probably not a good idea to try to "seal" the board with anything other than a good latex paint, since it probably needs to "breathe" in that exposed situation.
Thank you for the input. Another solution might be to use siding to cover it. Would that allow it to breathe?
sealer for plasterboard ceiling
Hi, There is a wide varieties of ready mixed plasterboard sealer. Plaster sealer is a ready to use fiber glass reinforced crack filling compound for both interior and exterior surfaces. The sealer can be rolled, brushed or sprayed to the plasterboard ceiling directly. It ensures unmatched crack bridging ability for plaster cracks of up to 3 mm and better moisture resistivity. Hope this is helpful. thank you.
