*got one at home depot years ago. very common.brian
*A sliding attic stair from Home Depot ? Are you sure ? Next thing you'll be telling me is that they're stocking hand splits......
*okay. it's possible it was at HomeBase. it was one of the chain stores...i couldn't get a #!*ing 36" 1 3/4" solid core slab door at the local HD yesterday, nor the screws for installing onto a steel jamb (didn't expect them to have these). walked out in disgust. please believe me, HD is nobody's mecca...brian
*The HD's in my area have one of each size attic stair in a crumpled, torn, taped over, torn again box with obvious damage to the stair assembly and no installation or trim kits to be found. I asked Werner where their stairs were sold. I got a reply that HD, Lowes, and all of the other stores that only carry the Werner 6' folding ladders when asked carry the full Werner line.
*Saw an old one once...solid/well built/safe. Have stuck a few of the newer ones into ceiling pockets also....rickety/unsafe. Would never have one in my house....I'd build my own.....nothing like crashing to the floor with a box christmas lights in your arms.
*Jim, you talking the sliding stairs by bessler, or the folding pull down stairs for 89-150? I last put in a bessler about 5 yrs ago and it was a good stair at maybe 350. There are some antique sliding stairs with good hand rails and if still around, are cadillacs.
*After all this babble, bobl's response, the first you got, is the answer. Get out your checkbook.
*Thanks steve for clearing this up.
*I'm having a new house built and just had to locate one for my builder. Try Bessler Stair - http://www.bessler.com/. They offer a range of sizes, including some engineered to fit between trusses @ 2' o.c.PLB
