I’ve got a standard steel Bilco bulkhead door that needs painting. It was originally painted with a gray/silver hammerite (sp?) paint that hasn’t held up well in a coastal location, and now, there’s quite a bit of rust forming. The question is, what’s the best method and material to repaint?
Has anyone used that stuff that’s sold in the Gempler’s Catalog? It supposedly reduces the rust into a chemically stable form to make a black kind of primer that then can be coated with any oil based paint. (I think that’s how they explain it)
Or, is there a better, more conventional way, to repaint that will hold up. Thanks for your thoughts.
