Shower Horizontal Grab Bar Installation Question
I have a tiled shower. Tiles are installed over sheetrock (regular, blue or green)…definitely not cement backerboard. Also, no blocking between studs. I’m assuming that I’ll be able to attach one end to a stud. I’ll use a toggle to attach the other end. I’m always leary about using toggles or mollys for anything that carries a lot of weight or will be pulled on. Would using toggles to attach both ends of the grab bar be askng for trouble?

There are Wingits (http://www.wingits.com/products.php?id=2) and some knock-offs of those which (while being harder to install) are more secure than toggle bolts and are "certified" to meet ADA standards when installed on reasonably sound tile over drywall.
I've used Wingits on a couple of occasions with good results.

Thank You. I went to their web site. Looks like the way to go. Concerning hollow wall anchors (toggles, mollys, etc.) I read an article that said the weight figures for each size/type of device are the maximum break point weights and should be reduced by a safety factor of 4 to get the safe working load. Most of the product packages list the max loads which is kind of misleading....unless the user knows better.
second for wing-its
Agree with the wing-it recommendation. Good product.
For grins, if you need one, a 24" bar set at close to a 45-degree angle will hit studs 16" oc.
