Updating a 70’s partially bricked ranch and customer desires a wood bevel siding overlay. I’ve never done this type of application and would like some input.
Thanks,Jerry

I've done this a lot of times. Fir the walls out...thickness depends on the depth of windows, soffets, facia etc etc. I just use masonary nails as theres more control then a nail gun that can blow out the mortar joints but you can try your nail gun if you insist. I prefere firring with 2X4 although 2x3 is fine. I also use an exterior mastic in my caulk gun on each piece of 2x such as the PL products. I also go 12" on center and nail directly to the strips but if you prefer you can nail up 1/2" sheathing first. Thats up to you
Have fun
