I need some suggestions. We are looking for a way to get rid of the cigarette smoke smell from our cathedral-pine ceiling. The house was occupied for 33 years by a heavy smoker necesitating the removal of the carpet and sheetrock. Now we want to find a way to get rid of the smell in the pine ceiling(without sanding).
Thanks for your help.

Maybe a good wash with TSP?
Thanks for the suggestion. We'll give it a try in an inconspicuous area.
Try washing with vinger and warm water, then rinse well. Cover the floor well with a full sheet of viz-queen, use a good respirator and googles, and use a garden sprayer to spray the solution on then scrub and rinse well.
Or, perhaps a fire cleanup ozone generator used while the house is vacant?

The tar from cigarettes probably needs a solvent for removal. I would try washing down with mineral spirits AKA paint thinner AKA odorless thinner. The solvents in mineral spirits are not strong enough to remove the varnish.
