What is a good way to mitigate squeaky floors on a house built ~1982 with joists of dimensional lumber. The house is a one-story with unfinished basement so there is ready access to the underside of all floors. There is no cross bracing between the floor joists. Would retrofitting cross-bracing help or is there something else to be done? If cross-braces, are there ready-made cross-braces or must they be manually cut?

First off you need to figure out what's squeaking. Is it the subflor, the joists, or metal ductwork between the floor joists?

Thanks, that sound like ... sound advice! I'll go localize the sound and duct vs. wood I think I can handle ... but, joist vs. subfloor ... not sure how to tell ... advise?
