I am hoping to get some input from those of you that either have a steam shower or have installed them, before I install one myself.
I have a few concerns:
#1 I have been told that it is inadvisable to use natural stone ie. honed limestone 12×12 tiles as the steam will etch them over time.
Has anyone had good or bad experiences with honed limestone in a shower?
#2 I am also unsure how much slope to put in the ceiling to prevent cold condensation from raining down rather than running off. I have been told no slope is needed, 2″ per foot, and 6″per foot.
Can anyone share their field observations on what is/is not adequate slope?
#3 My friend with a steam shower says his steam outlet can spit hot droplets off water out that ricochet off the floor and hit the shower occupant.
Any ideas on good locations for steam outlet? Most importantly should it be low enough that the hot mopper can seal around it to prevent steam/moisture from penetrating into the wall framing?
#4 How do I keep steam/moisture from entering the wall cavity via the escutcheon tubes around the valve stems for the shower valve?
#5 Does anyone have any recommendations for particular brands of steam generators?
Any other words of advice for designing a steam shower are greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Karl
