the entry door at this house is sprung at the top, away from the weather seal about 3/4″ proud of the jamb..(the inside face of the door is 3/4″ from the face of the jamb)…there are two side lights as this came as one unit…
“the door” is not part of my work at this site but it does bug me..I’ve seen the crew tweaking the hinges but with no good results..I’m sure I’m about to hear what the problem is…but what’s the cure ????
thanks in advance, pilgrim

I've used five Therma tru doors, two of them composite, and every one of them have had seriopus problems. The composite ones both had similar problems, warping in away from the jamb at top and bottom both. The company replaced them but the new ones have the same problem very soon afterwards. I've since seen a cutawy sample for display and I don't believe they use enopugh wood in the stile edge of the door. when the doorknob hole is drilled out there is nearly nothing to stablize that side of the door. The only hope for them would be a three point locking mechanism.
I think they are junk and refuse to buy anymore. I've also had trouble with their thresholds being cut too long, hinges improperly set, seals coming loose....
wow Piff....glad I read that! I was thinking about installing one at my place this summer! You think this is specific to just this one fiberglass manufacturer?
Looks like I'm switching brands. Jeff "That's like hypnotizing chickens........."

Don't know about others - just that with TT the reinforcing is woefully inadequate. Even with the company changing it once to impress the customer, it's a pain. Callbacks cost. Rebuilding a prehung in the field costs. When they send out low quality product time after time, they are taking my time away from me. That is no diffeerent than theft.
I'm a pretty patioent and understnding guy, likely to say "Oh Well" and let it pass once or twice because everybody makes mistakes. But that fact is that I've never got a TT right as it came from the factory. My impression is that the've got a lot of under paid help there who are worth what they're getting paid.
Excellence is its own reward!
Must be a Therma-Tru thing. I can't recall off the top of my head which brand we use, but we have no problems with our fiberglass doors. I do know that it's not therma-tru.

Thanks for the timely response to my inquierey regarding the "TT" door..now I know why I'm to expect a visit from their factory rep in the next couple of weeks ...it's unfortuneate that "any" company today has to play these games when most of us want the project done correctly...no one wins ..
thanks again,pilgrim
I remebered the other day which brand of fiberglass entry doors we use.....ODL.
Never had any problems with them.

Thema tru has the same problem with the al clad doors also ,any way mine leaks air at the top jamb corner . Whisles very well on a windy day. If I stand there and hold the top corner in it stops ,only has to be moved a very slight amount to stop the air. I have the same problem with a Peach Tree unit also.
