Plans for a Timber Frame house. We would like to purchase some plans for a small timberframe building – approximately 550 – 600 square feet. If anyone knows where we might go to locate them — please advise

By considering things like energy-efficient mechanicals, window orientation, and renewable energy sources, homes can be evaluated to meet the energy codes. Here's what the IRC has to say.

Pick up a copy of Tedd Benson's The Timber-Frame Home. at a local Barnes and Noble............check out the bibliography. Lots of resources. His books are full of ideas, but specifics you must track down.
In FHB there are advertisers for TF plans but you can expect to pay $$$$$$$ for the engineered shop drawings for YOUR plan.

There are several good timber framing books, including Bensons. My favorite though, is "Timber Frame Construction" by Jack Sobon and Roger Schroeder. It explains European timber framing (the most common style in the U.S.) very clearly, especially if you're going to do this yourself. Included in the book are plans for a 12' X 16' shed which could easily be enlarged.
Measure it with a micrometer, mark it with a piece of chalk and cut it with an axe.
What are you looking for in plans? Ideas? exact dimensions? How to do this? a materials list? cost estimates?
There are a couple of magazines with plans, you can make any home a timber frame home, Timbers are a method of building, not a style. so if you want a smaller lake cabin, find a cabin style that you like and have it built with timbers instead of 2x4's. the same applies to any home that strikes your fancy.
By the way I'm in the midst of building my timberframe (or was untill the snow/sleet/ rain drove me indoors) I love it!
you might want to try http://www.timberpeg.com.
I will be building one of these this summer.
Pat,
I'm interested in Timberpeg.com and I like there "wrap and strap" system. But the bug infestaion mentioned below has me wondering. Have you heard of anything simiar with Timberpeg products?

Years ago I insulated a large post &beam room w/polyisocyanurate 2" 4'x8' sheets. Several months later I read in FHB some comments about offgassing and loss of r value & that carpenter ants love the stuff because it is a presoftened home building material. Well I stopped worrying about the heat bill but the ants have come to roost! Poor access for treating w/borate or other bug juice solutions. Any other experiences or suggestions before I get drastic would be appreciated.
