I have recently dismantled an old barn and wanted to use some of the timbers in the construction of my house (more cosmetically than structurally). As expected I have found evidence of rot in some of the timbers(i’m not sure how to identify what type? fungus , wet rot, dry rot etc) and worm holes.
Apart from removing the soft material what can I do to prevent further degradation and to ensure it doesnt spread elsewhere?
Most of the timbers are either oak or walnut.
