The wife is fond of having an undersink filter with a separate water dispenser on the kitchen sink. For years we had a standard cartridge filter, but that was a PITA to change, and the old dispenser head fell apart, so maybe 10 years ago I replaced it with a GE “SmartWater” unit that uses bayonet cartridges that can be replaced without shutting off the water.
The unit worked fine for several years and then, after changing the cartridge, started making a buzzing noise and only dispensing a trickle. Tried a different cartridge with the same effect, so replaced the manifold. All was well.
But it’s doing it again, after the last cartridge replacement. Clearly there’s a design bug in the manifold that causes the valve to fail after several cartridge changes.
So is there another brand of undersink bayonet filter that anyone can recommend? I saw a Culligan at the local hardware store, but they didn’t have the replacement cartridges, and I don’t want something that you can’t get cartridges for.
(Note: I’m only interested in a simple single-cartridge particulate/T&O filter, not some fancy-smancy RO unit, or a multi-cartridge rig.)
