Vaulting a ceiling… with a chimney in the middle
Hi,
First question here… I don’t do construction work and don’t know much about it either, so please be patient with me…
I want to know if it’s possible to vault a ceiling with a chimney in the middle of the room. It’s a house that was built in the 60s. There’s a wall that goes along the peak edge of the roof, but there’s a fireplace in that wall, and the chimney goes out. I don’t know if there are trusses or rafters in the attic. Either way, is it going to be possible to convert this room to a vaulted ceiling? If so, how? And cost?
Thank you!

The chimney is a relatively small issue compared to the issue of vaulting the ceiling in the first place -- it's not easy to do right (though many ways to do it poorly, where there will be problems later).
