I am building a roof over an exterior deck and I am providing a finished bead board ceiling under the new roof. Is it important to vent the space above the ceiling even though there is no mechanical heating or cooling involved? If ventilation is required, how much ventilation would be recommended? Insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'm just guessing here, but I would think not. The problem is that another reason to vent the roof is to maintain the shingle warranty since venting supposedly keeps the roof cooler than not venting and so extends the life of the shingles.
If the roof is truely isolated from the living area and the exterior deck is truely open, I wouldn't bother to vent. But if this was a customer's house, then they would have to sign off that the shingle warranty might be void.
But I'm no expert.
