What happens when ridge vents get covered with snow?

Hi, I'm building a garage and am just about done, but I want to put ridge vents on. However, I live in a very snowy area. My question is, how would a ridge vent work when covered with snow. Since the air flow would be blocked, they're useless in the winter. So would it be better to install box vents that have a higher peak and thus won't so easily be blocked with snow?

"Very snowy" is relative (post #215719, reply #1 of 1)

"Very snowy" is relative (especially this year), but it's been my experience, here in southern Minnesota, that the ridge generally blows clear in a few days.
