Ok — you’re gonna laugh and I expect a few inappropriate responses…
What do you cold-weather types wear under your insulated bib overalls? I do some carpentry work in Boston and just picked up some Carhartt insulated bib overalls.
Am I supposed to wear these over jeans? Or do I wear them over long-johns? Commando???

most people wear them over their long underwear and their pants as well.
They are incredibly warm. I always keep them behind the seat of my truck.
You will love your new purchase.
A simple camisole or half teddy is fine, crotchless panties if the package binds.

I've seen a picture of you and god forbid those overalls ever have to be taken off in a public place!
remember what mom used to say about wearing clean underwear incase of an accident.
Not suggesting that I would look any better!

As Cosby says,,Clean undies ain' gonna matter if I get hit by a bus, cuz first I'm gonna say it, then I' m gonna do it.
I got the high$$$ wool longjohns from Duluth and depending how much I am in or out during the day, I start with them and layer up from that.
I have the same bibs..Carhatt Insulated. I have the full overalls too, but it has to be bone numbing cold to wear them and if its THAT cold, I'll probably hang in the shop and let the outdoors stuff go for a more conducive to time.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

i prefer a string type, keeps everything in front hanging close, plus you never get a rash on the backside. and the carharts will be so smooth in the back all the guys will be asking" does he or doesn't he" not signing my nameif a man speaks in the forest, and there's not a woman to hear him,is he still wrong?

Am i remembering correctly that you are somewhere in colorado? profile doesn't say.
If yes, I visited your beautiful state a couple times. dont know if i told this here before.
i have a friend who had friends in brekenridge (of all places) who had access to an old miners log house in the mountains. you could drive to it all right from the glitzy town, but the last mile or 2 were snowmobile only or snowshoes.
no plumbing or electrickery. roof had a solid 2 ft of snow and ice when i was there. creaked with worrisome noises. 2 wood stoves glowing to keep the place warm at night, several layers of blankets. beer stayed cold outside, well covered. practice shootin the 30/06 from the deck in the morning. cross country skiing under bright moonlight.
some of the best times i've ever had... city life is so boring.
way deep in the mtns of colorado...
My profile lists the area.. not even a burg or a hamlet near by...
daily life here a pleasure....

They are very warm. If you don't wear anything under them your coworkers will regret it when it warms up in the afternoon.
What do you cold-weather types wear under your insulated bib overalls?
What ever I'd wear if it was a few degrees warmer.
http://grantlogan.net/
Regular old boxers and sweat pants. Jeans will be too binding with all the waistbands.
Good socks.
The upper body is where I layer. Tee shirt and turtleneck under the bibs. Coat over that. Take off the coat as needed, don't get sweaty.
And a hat. A warm hat. Always. Lets you wear less of the upper body layers.
Anyone use the Under Armour type stuff?

I got one of those waxed cotton caps that is water proof, man, that thing will stop the wind. Just no ear flaps.
When it is a little bit chilly, like down to 20°F with no wind, I just wear my regular work pants or maybe the flannel lined ones the wife thought I might need.
If it looks liek the wind will blow or the temp will get below 10°F I wear longjohns under my work pants.
It needs to be colder than zero before I break out those insulated coveralls.
But a couple of the guys I work with don't like longjohns. they claim it binds too much, but I think they have never bought any good ones, just the $7.59 knit rib version. They climb into the Carharts with regular street pants under them when they get out of the truck in the morning, then in and out of them as the weather changes.

I will wear mine over jeans and a t shirt... has to be pretty darn cold to wear them- almost cold enough to stay home.
I have the "arctic" lining, and they are almost too warm.
I've always treated them like another layer, over jeans or jeans and long johns.
I come from just south of boston and I were regular pants an a t-shirt with a sweatshirt over that. If it's over 40* then it is into shorts (come to think of it I was wearing shorts while it was snowing out).
It takes studs to build a house
when it get down around 45, I,m climbing in my carharts. I wear jeans under them and about three shirts with the black liner carhart jacket on top. The ears got cold last week so the hood got snap on too. But it was 28 degrees
i had some insulated overalls once but gave them away, they would be ok if one was just standing around but any work and there too hot. The guys working in the cannerys used them when they worked in the freezers. I only ware my carpenter overalls with sweat pants and tshirt and hooded sweatshirt when it gets cold. I could not move with the insulated ones.
you must live south of mason dixon line. pair of sweats and coveralls good for -20
uhmmmmmmmmmmmm....

thought they wanted to know what kind of hat to wear with insulated overalls.
I caught that as well, kept wondering what these guys were thinking wearing their boxers outside the coveralls. Must be related to gunner.
They can't get your Goat if you don't tell them where it is hidden.
Up here in Wisconsin we hardly ever wear them (overalls), unless it gets sorta cold, like minus twenty or so. The Farm and Fleet (Carhartt dealer) and La Crosse Footwear have had hard times these last few years because of the warmer temps, as well as the grumpy old men out on the ice. We wear layers up here, one never too thick, as you have to shed as you get hot, and you don't want to shed too much at a time. Usually it's tee shirt, hooded sweatshirt, then Carhartt jacket. Pants are also layered. One covering for all doesn't give that flexibility.
It actually asks, in poor grammar, what to wear the bibs over. But you speculation creates an interesting mental image - especially following on Sphere's comments - lots of entertaining possibilities.
Sorry -- I meant "under." I couldn't figure out how to correct the title of my post.TPToolpig (a.k.a. The man formerly known as "Toolfreak" and "Toolfanatic")

I never could wear them. They were too hot. I liked wearing them becuase they had a nice pocket for my pencil. I had the artic versions and gave them away.
Ob course, I should mention that I always keep a fire bucket handy.

I have a pair that I wear on occasion. Usually roofing in the winter or shoveling snow.
I wear jeans underneath, depending on the wind I might wear long johns under the jeans.
Red Wings, bib overalls and a hooded sweat shirt has been my uniform for the coldest days we get here.

Sure is, I found a local shop that makes them really heavy duty. About $10-15 each. I stock up every year.
I also shop at the goodwill for heavyweight wool sweaters. $5 gets me a garbage bag full of them.

Carhartt makes uninsulated bibs that have a zipper.........
Duck Zip-To-Thigh Bib Overall/Unlined
Style #: R37
the old style , that I wear had the zipper to knee
.

, wer ist jetzt der Idiot ?
I just wear sweatpants under non-insulated bibs.. you know, the bibs that have a ZIPPER in the legsI have worn insulated bibs but only on the very coldest days, and then only the red insulated ones from carhartt because the black ones are just too damn hot....... at least for me anyway because I'm such a puss*.

., wer ist jetzt der Idiot ?
I stand corrected.....wonder why they don't stock them anywhere near me? Zip to knee would be just as bad as no zipper....need to go too thigh so I don't have to de-boot. Keith C
speaking from experience, zip to knee worked just fine with boots on .. but I agree zip to thigh would be great...I always got my Carharrt from a guy in Logansport, IN and the new style is $54..I will give you the address if you want it.

Dress as you normally would. They key is that there is enough room for you to move and for air to move around your legs. If there isn't, you just sweat then freeze.
