Try doing a search on the internet with your zip code and go on the web site of any hits and enter your address. That will sort it out pretty fast. Most people will only have one cable option anyway.
The way it is going, that will be Comcast, no matter where you live.
The only real competition is satellite or the phone company, if they have the infrastructure in place to offer it.
so comcast is a private cable operator(PCO) wikiapeda made it sound like the two things are different.

If you have a PCO you are lucky that there is a little competition but they are getting harder to come by these days.
Usually as soon as Comcast. TW or one of the other giants come in, they run the PCO out of business, one way or another, usually by making them an offer they can't refuse. (sometimes aided by the politcians)
The best cable company I ever had was South Florida Cable, a tiny local operation. My broadband was cheap and a very solid 8meg, back when most people were on dial up. The service degraded as the big fish ate the little fish and when it ended up being Comcast, the service was so bad I called and told them to come get their stuff. I cut the cable and left it in a pile on top of the cable modem, sitting in the right of way. I did put the cable modem in a DSL box. The guy picking it up said "man, that's cold".
I got a laugh out of that.
