I am asking this question other forums too
Hubby says it can not,,,,,be done
Bought used aluminum clad windows and aluminum clad patio door last week,,,,, way too cheap… all for one price, Knew before we drove the almost 100 miles it was the wrong handed…. But all the used windows came for one price anyway…
well question is why cant a left handed patio door be changed to a right handed.. you know the right panel swings in and the left panel stationary…???
reason we need to install another door is the the wooden patio door is rotted sill and bottom of door rotted and center outdide post rotted…. and glass is fogged…..
was all the way ,when bought house “as is”
what a mistake…
A new aluminum clad starts at $1400 I say starts…
I must have prev been born in Missouri(LOL) cause I can not understand why NOT….
Our neighbor changed his single ….full view exterior aluminum clad door ( from major window distrubtor “garage sale”)from right holed 6o left holde. works fine…
Course that is a single door not a patio door
Thanks Yall

I hope you can get an answer to your question.
My comment would be, you are there with the door. Seems like you'd have the best chance to figure it out. I assume you are not just talking turning the whole unit around and making it swing out.
You must be thinking of flipping the door over, still keeping the clad side out. Plugging and recutting the hole for the latch to the other side of the jamb. Since many hinges on these doors are not even mortised, that part shouldn't be a problem. The only downside, the knob is set high-again I assume, you're not going to plug and recut that hole, but you could. They make a metal door lockset plug and a commercial door distributor should have one. It's a two part cover that screws through the lockset hole.
EDIT: If you flip the door, maybe use the original lockset hole for a deadbolt, drill new for the entry set.
Other than some problems maybe with the weather stripping, have at it.
Some patio doors can be reversed, but usually not the better quality ones. If the door can be reversed it will be obvious (to the careful observer) -- either there will be spots for the hinges and latch to be moved to the other side, or the entire panel will be designed to be turned upside-down.
A reversible clad swinging door huh? Please post a link.
I didn't say clad -- just that there have been reversable patio doors in the past. Probably lightweight aluminum junk, but I haven't been looking at a lot of patio doors for about 20 years.
But the OP has a clad door so your post is confusing at best, pointless at worst.

I think we should defer to Jenny26's opinion on this.............
if she should have one.
