See YellaWood Report 1 for a description of this stuff.
After my first purchase, I saw a listing for YellaWood tongue & groove flooring for porches & stuff. About half what Azek costs. So, I bought 79 ten foot boards, an eight foot board, and several 4 foot boards for my porch project. A couple weeks after they promised to deliver it, I called and got the wheels moving. Maybe that was a mistake.
I knew I would have to paint it and was prepared, but it still took 4 days and over a gallon of Kilz to prime. What I was not prepared for was the quality (or lack therof) of the material. I will say up front that the boards are clear pine as advertised.
The 4′ boards were in pretty good shape except for the fact that the tongues & grooves are not exactly centered, so there is just one face side. All but one face was decent, and that defect will go against the house wall.
The 8′ board is fine.
The 10′ boards are a bit disappointing. Most have some planer snipe on one end. About 30% have defects on one face (my porch is on the second floor, so both faces will be visible). About 20% have a groove that gets shallow over the last few feet. I will have to plane down the tongue of the mating board for those (or deepen the groove with a router). At least one has a too-shallow groove for the entire length. I will have to use a router to deepen that. Several boards have wane or other problems on the groove side. In many cases this is bad enough to make the groove useless for part of the board. The wane on one of these boards extends for the entire length. Another is warped about a foot in ten feet. I’m not sure these will be usable.
The Axek T&G stuff would have cost me about $2,000 more. At this point, I think I would be willing to pay the extra (keep in mind that I still have to get a couple coats of paint on this stuff after I get it down).
Would I buy it again? No. Would I recommend this to others? No.
