Big Developers going Green?
Hello All,
I’ve been poking around on the net for a couple of minutes and I can’t seem to find if any of the really big developers are ‘going green’
I’ve been able to find a program from Lennar homes called Solar Plus but I have not been able to find any other programs at the other builders.
Does anyone have any knoweldge of the other builders promoting any ‘green building’ programs?
By big I mean places like Centex, Pulte and Toll bros.
thanks,
Daniel Neumansky

Here's what I heard back from Lennar
-High performance windows (low E windows)
-Certified attic insulation (R-38 or higher)
-Radiant barrier
-Certified insulated R-13/R-19 (or higher) exterior walls
-Insulated exterior stucco system
-High-efficiency furnace and A/C
-Tight ducts with improved insulation
-Energy efficient lighting
The manufacturer of the Solar Electric System is Sun Power. For more information about Sun Power, please visit http://www.sunpowercorp.com and http://www.powerlight.com.
As for details and names of the manufacturers of the other components (which probably varies a bit from one community to another), we personally will have to contact another department for this information, which will likely take us a couple of days to compile.
If you have any other questions or requests in the meanwhile, please feel free to contact us again. Thank you for your interest in Lennar. Hope you have a great day!

Newland Communities out of San Diego just signed up to certify 2,000 homes NAHB green in Chatham County NC, we have Anderson, Cimarron, and now even Drees certifying green. So far no Toll Brothers but their guy in Tidewater Maryland spent quite a bit of time talking with me about it at the NAHB Green Building Symposium in St. Louis last spring.
Our local Parade of homes has eleven certified green homes on it this fall and many many energy star homes. I'll be up in DC again this month working on the National Green Building Standard and we have a rep from K. Hovanian on that panel. Those guys are very smart, big into aging in place as well and look to be pretty significant if they go in with both feet. We're talking about Green themed Active Adult Communities.
