Dimmable Pendant Light Won't Dim

bunkync2's picture

Greetings! I have installed an Allen and Roth pendant light (model #34729) in my kitchen, with a Lutron dimmer (TG600P).  The dimmer is a toggle switch type dimmer with a dimmer slide next to the toggle switch.  The light turns on & off properly with the toggle switch, but the light does not respond to the dimmer.  In the interest of full disclosure, I had the power feed wired to the wrong switch terminal when I first turned the light on, so I guess it is possible that I damaged the dimmer.  Can anyone tell me if that is definitley the problem, or might something else be going on here?  Thanks for your help!  Greg T.

if you wired the black wire (post #212751, reply #1 of 3)

if you wired the black wire from the breaker directly to the dimmer, you fried the dimmer.

Here is the wiring data, (post #212751, reply #2 of 3)

Here is the wiring data, supposedly: http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentL...

There's not really any way to get this wired totally wrong (other than to omit the lamp from the circuit entirely), though it's not a good idea to have the hot and neutral connections reversed.

And the fixture you list is designed for a "vintage style" incandescent lamp (vs fluorescent), so you shouldn't have a conflict there.

Short? (post #212751, reply #3 of 3)

short it and burn it up will eliminate the working function of the dimmer.
