Old Band Saw fer sale

BossHog's picture

Thought I'd try breaking in this part of the forum.

I bought an old bandsaw at a geerage sale, thinking I'd fix it up and use it. But time constraints and such have prevented me from doing so. The thing has sat in my garage collecting dust for about 10 years.

The thing is cast iron (I think) and is pretty old - I'd guess from the 1940s or 1950s. The bearings are really loose, so they would need fixing before anyone attempted to use the thing as a bandsaw. It would probably be better for a tool collector.

It has no motor - Just a pulley. I'll try to post a pic if anyone is interested.

I'll sell it for $1,000 or best offer. Or maybe about $40, which is about what I have invested in the thing.

"you beat me to being the first post by seconds. Hate you..lol"

Actually, it was about 5 minutes. Don't see any reason to hate anyone about that. (Except maybe liberals)

Kinda ironic that your post and mine were the first 2, with you wanting a bandsaw and me selling one.

Never been to New York, and don't know that I care to ever go. Don't like crowds and crowded places. But thanks for the offer. And I've never used pump jacks.

.

As for the info Bill Hartman asked for on the bandsaw -

It's a 2 wheel saw, probablt 12" diameter wheels. (The saw is probably about 30" tall overall) I was thinking it's a Craftsman, but am not at all sure.

It probably weighs about 50 pounds. I have one extra blade. Would probably ship UPS.

You have pretty good luck with UPS up your way, don''t you ???...........(-:

UPS deliveries have gotten much better here. Turned out the UPS guy was afraid of Rufus. Once I convinced him that Rufus wouldn't bite him even if he were wearing a dog buiscit suit, and slathered with gravy... things have been good. Can you imagine the guy trying to throw 50 pounds of bandsaw out the door of the van while driving by at a good clip ? LOL

Do youse guys sometimes send things out by UPS where you work ? Could you find out what it would cost to ship that to Gold Bar, Washington ? 98251 zip code.

Have you gotten a picture of it yet ?

Luka -

No pictures yet. I'll have to borrow a digital camera for that, which I'll try to do over the weekend.

Not sure how I could figure shipping costs, other than boxing it up and taking it to a UPS station. I'll give that some thought.

BTW - I did want to point out again that the bearings are rather loose, and I doubt it would work well as a bandsaw without a fair amount of work.

Replacing tires, bearings, guides/guide blocks, etc...

Doing a complete tune-up....

It is all a part of the enjoyment of the machine for me. I enjoy the process, and am capable of anything that needs to be done. I believe that I could even find the bearings without having to order them from the manufacturer.

What will probably sink it for me is the cost. I need a really good idea of what the shipping will cost. Could be that even at a price of 40 dollars, once shipping is added, it could cost as much as a really cheap new one, or a good rebuilt one. Add the cost of the bearings and other parts, and it could cost more than a good one, new...

Hate ta tell ya, Andy, but I don't think it will fly. We just don't have the bucks or time for that kind of trip. And I seriously don't like them big, crowded places.
