I know there's been a bit of discussion on the Fein mm knock-offs but it's a changing field and I can't find any opinions on the Hardin version as found here:

It has a 250w motor like the Fein and comes with a 2 yr warranty.    It goes for under $70 via Ebay on a regular basis.     Has anyone tried one of these?      Looks like it might be a nice upgrade from the Harbor Freight version at a fraction of the Fein cost.

Answering my own post....

Someone elsewhere alerted me to the fact that Harbor Freight now has a variable speed model with a similar sized motor and speeds almost as fast as the Hardin tool.    Not sure how much difference there is between the tools.     Hardin has the 2 yr warranty and HF is probably cheaper with a coupon.   It's also returnable locally.

I'd have to say that in my business the thing that would agravate the heck outta me would be to have a burnt up tool right in the middle of a work day.  Without the guys to leave while I bought another one I'd be [JOBSITE WORD] outta luck.  So I guess I'll just read about all the money I didn't save and be satisfied with the longtime purchase.

Best of luck with the tool.  If it produces like the MM, you'll be one happy productive guy.

Yep, a decent one is well worth the cost of the Fein, even to a DIYer.  The thing has paid for itself several times over, even though I've only really used it maybe 20-30 times.

One thing to look for in a knock-off is one that will accept blades from another readily-available brand.  It's no bargain if you can't find blades to fit it.
