Rebuilding a wood window
Rebuilding a wood window (post #205311)
bergsteiger1 on Tue, 11/08/2011 - 10:30
I am rebuilding some wood awning and casement windows and have had to replace one section that was beyond repair. The windows have a small groove runing around the outside edge into which a piece of vinyl weather strip is inserted. This weather strip seals the gap between the operating part of the window and the exterior frame when the window is closed. The groove is about 3/32" wide and about 1/4" deep. I can't seem to figure out what kind of a tool or blade I would need to make this grove. I have looked for Dremel or router bits but haven't seen anything this small. I wonder if you can get a sawblade this thin? Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

You can use a slotting router bit. The depth of cut is controlled by the bearing or fence on a router table.

Great suggestion. I don't know why I didn't think of that, but I think it will work perfectly. Thanks a lot.
