I own a 3HP fixed base PC router for use soley in my table. I am concerned that dust and chips are finding their way into the router though the fan exhaust. I have thought of using a plate to cover but I think that will cause more damage with overheating. What do you do? Am I worrying about nothing?

Do you have a dust collection system attatched to your fence? That helps. I have several melamine bases for my router. I use the base with the smallest hole that still clears the bit I intend to use.
*Yes.
*Don't worry about it, just vacuum it out occasionally. My PC 7518 has been in my table for a long time now. When I pull it to change bits, etc, I vacuum it out. The turbulence from the motor keeps the fine stuff out and that's what you would need to be worried about.
*I just blow mine out with compressed air when im done. I first hold and blow it out turning it slowly by hand then I turn it on and blow it out again. over kill maybe but it works for me. In fact I gotta do it again in about 3 hours after the paint dries on the doors I made.
