Table Saws - Jet ProShop - Any experience? (post #186271)

Looking for a table saw recommendation.  Finally moved to a place with enough space, and my father moved further away so his saw is no longer easily available (after I put a nice Vega fence on the thing for him, dammit!)

I read through this month's Fine Homebuilding (#210) and was looking at the portable saws - liked the Bosch 4100 best, and I've played with the various big box models out on display - they always seem to have broken wheels/levers/adjustments which always makes me wary.

I decided I don't need a portable saw - I'm staying put most of the time.

Started looking at the Jet ProShop saw - Cast iron trunnion, Good fence, $800.   Seems very solid, stable.  Anyone have any experience with this saw?

It's wise of you to narrow down what you don't want.  I have no knowledge of the Jet you mention but if I were in your position, I'd keep an eye out on Craig's List or Ebay for a nice Delta Unisaw or even better a Powermatic Model #66. I've seen them in the price range you're talking. 

One word of caution though.  If you buy a saw with a three-phase motor and don't have three-phase power where the saw will go, you either have to change the motor,  get three phase insalled if the power company will let you,  or get a phase converter.  It's not necessarily a deal breaker, but keep in mind the added expense to make it work.

I'm sure Junkhound has some economical ways to get the three phase conversion done if he's around anywhere.

Thanks.  I have been looking Craigslist in my area - lots of unrealistic sellers trying to sell Ryobi BT-3000s for MORE than the list price of 5 years ago.

A couple of Unisaws, but older models in the 1,500 range, mostly 3 phase so far
