Hey, have any of you tried the new polyurethane air hoses?
I was at the fastener supply store today, looking for some 100′ hoses, guy said you want the good ones or the cheap ones. I said good ones, thinking he meant a good rubber Bostich hose. He says ok, $123.00 (Cnd) I’m like ok, whatever…. they should be more around $70. So he shows me these funky looking poly hoses that weigh next to nothing!
OK I’ve never seen these before…but at the store they’re looking pretty cool. The guys says they don’t kink and he’s even heard if they get a puncture you can melt the hole closed. Although he clarifies that ‘that is what he’s heard.’
So anybody used em? if so what do you think? worth the extra dough?

I've had one since last fall. Wouldn't use anything else now. I've never heard about the puncture thing.

I had a 100' of flexeel and a new Rolair compressor to give him and he passed on it... said he already several compressors and 100's of feet of hose...
what am I gonna do with 5 compessors and a 1.000' of hose... by Saturday it all went away... I gave G8 1st dibbs..
had to find them a new home... too much baggage...
Actually I'm rich in hoses and compressors. Heck I'm rich in everything.

Since this thread has already deviated at bit, let me ask about universal type air hose couplers. I have seen them that are supposed to adapt to a half dozen or so different styles of fittings. Anyone use them. How good are they. Are they more prone to leaking?
I tried them... they leak...
I'm rich in hoses and compressors as well...connectors too.
The ell hoses do punture real easy.
Never heard you can melt em' fixed. Gonna try that today on one that was punctured last week....I think theres a whole thread about that here somewhere from a few weeks ago.

I use 1/4" Flexeel hoses. The repair shop here sells 'em cheap, about $21 for a 25 footer. I find that the longer ones (used a 100 footer for a while) are hard to store without getting 'em tangled... they have a kind of weird way of coiling up and can become a mess. A couple of 25's or a 25 and a 50 should do most jobs.
Thanks for the info re flexeel, I think I know the stuff you're talking about. seems like thats not really cheap. $21 USD is only cheap cuz it's only 25' of hose. 4x 21= 84 which is only 6 less than what IMERC pays
For big framing jobs you can use 3-4 100' hoses or more. The guy at the shop was telling me the poly hoses are a big improvement over the rubber hoses. They pull around really easily cuz they are so light, they don't kink and they don't have the coil trouble (re:100' flexeel), which I asked him about. (when you look at the hose rolled up in the store it looks like it will coil up alot)
I wanted to get imput from guys who have worked with it, to know if it is worth the extra money. so far couple guys seem to really like it. ( thanks guys)
yur using 1/4" Im using 3/8"
I've got a 1/4" 50' that gets a little snakey
does the 3/8" tend to lay flat?
There is a Coilhose Pneumatics swivel fitting that you can attach to the gun, then your quick-connect attaches to that... I'm told that they help quite a bit with the Flexeel hose. By lunch time I need to disconnect mine and straighten it out. I'd still rather use them than the nice Senco rubber hoses I also have.
it's snakey but it behaves better than 1/4"
Hmmm....I didn't say anything about 1/4".
I'm using 3/8"
sorry .. misread...
I'm using a new Ultra-Lite Polyurethane air hose and LOVING IT!

Can you explain the difference between Flexeel, POLYURETHANE and PVC hoses?
Inquiring minds would like to know.

What are dreadlocks made from?
to be accurite... google..
if you have used all 3 you'd know the difference....
I have all three and rubber too..
I am asking if YOU know the difference. You earlier referred to flexeel as PU ..thay are in fact not the same. Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks
What are dreadlocks made from?
sure I do....
that's one of the things that get lumped into the same heap like the ones Kleenex, Saran Wrap or Reynolds....
Really... Need you have asked....
I saw a sale on the PU from MSC....the "self storing" coil hose. My last exp. with a coil hose left a lot to be desired...
this one is 3/8ths 30' for 36.99 and shipping.
The nylon is junk unless ya have a cieling drop, then they rule.

coil hose makes Flexeel and they list it as a reinforced PU hose...

back to how many shades does that come in...
I'm surprized there hasn't been more comments about the curly/snaky nature of the flexeel. I have come to the conclusion that mine is infact HAUNTED! If I get within ten feet of that sucker it attacks my legs, hammer handle and anything protruding with uncanny tenacity. If it ever kills me I'll have my wife posts some pics of the incident and post it here for proof!Have all you guys had yours exorcized or what!
let ya in on a little known secret...
that hose you have is something ya take on an airplane ride... if something happens to the plane that hose will snag on to something and you'll never reach the ground...
stretch out the hose in the sun... let it cook for awhile... now strech it out between 2 points under mild tension... let cool... you have retrained yur hose to be a bit more polite...
the other thing is ya haveta be smarter than yur air hose...
Another tip is if you use your hose close to your comp, take the 100' hose and make two 50'ers out of it...it will really help with the snaking.Jason Pharez Construction

I have both an original flexeel and a knockoff version, and wouldn't go back to anything else. No difference between the two, both super flexible and lightweight. You will wonder how you got along without them.
Been using the ultralite poly u hoses for almost three years now. I have many different hoses in the shop, some the size of garden hose, I keep them around for any long runs but what is always attached to the tool I'm using is the lite poly hose. Don't even consider other hoses.
Nails,
Sphere (Duane) had a place He hooked me up to about a year ago for flex-eel. Pretty sure I paid $59,00 for 100 feet. BTW, it works great and can easily be shortened with barb fittings.

I pay 54.95 from the local lumberyard.Jason Pharez Construction

54.95? What length and diameter? I just paid about $80 for 5/16" X 100'.... three of them. Ouch.
fess up... it was worth it...
Every penny. But one of 'em stole my hammer right out of my belt today. Rascals.
1/4" ID x 100' Flexeel brand...funny thing is, they're more expensi9ve from the distributor than the lumberyard.Jason Pharez Construction

I just bought the Flexeel 5/16 X 100' and the only complaint I have is that the hose is a little "sticky" and it does tend to bind to itself and tangle. I'm hoping that after some use the surface will get dirty and more slippery.
Jim
That will wear off within a few days, once you get some dust on it it will be fine.
I had the same problem with mine. When it was time to wrap 'em up, I walked out to the middle of the dry dusty site and let them drag through the dust while I wrapped up. All better.
Has anyone tried Parker Hanifin? At work I buy tubing from them all the time, they sell nylon 3/8" for about $0.20/ft. The also have poly and many other options. I'm sure you could get much better prices through them. You would still have to get compression X npt fittings from them (about $3 each). If you guys are interested, I could call my vendor for actual pricing.

Bostitch has a new yellow hose that is compatible to the flex eel. Tried one out and let father borrow it. Never see that one again..replaced it with an acme hose 3/8x 50' 39.99 thought it was worth it. The Bostitch was free with purchase of ultiple guns so I don't know the price.
