3/4" hardwood meets 1/2" tile
3/4" hardwood meets 1/2" tile (post #176112)

Any suggestions for 3/4" hardwood meeting 1/2" tile? I've torn out the carpet in my living room, and am looking forward to having some lovely cherry flooring installed. My first choice is 3/4" cherry, but the tiles that meet the floor in two places are only 1/2" off the subfloor. Is there a transition that can be installed so that visitors aren't tripping? Or am I looking at having the tiles replaced as well?
Don't worry, I have a reputable guy installing everything, but want to hear some opinions before I make any decisions.
Thanks!

Since you haven't had a lot of responses here, I would suggest that you post your question in the Breaktime forum (three to the left of House Chat at the top of this page). I think there are beveled transition threshold boards that may work, but the Breaktime people will have more answers.

I'm of of the BTers; I've just strayed a bit.
Anyway, this is an easy one.
Just have your installer bevel a piece of flooring, tapering it down to the tile thickness, and install it as a transition piece. If you have prefinished flooring, it'll obviously have to be finished.
I like to make the bevel 2-3 times wider than the height difference, which would make your bevel 1" to 1-1/2" wide.
Sometimes the floor manufacturer has these pieces already made; you might want to check with your installer.
