I am restoring a 1900 Folk Victorian and need to replace the barge/verge board – is anyone familiar with how you would construct a simple design. Do you use a 1x, 2x, or plywood stock with face frame ?
Thanks

You may try asking your question at the Breaktime forum--two over from House Chat above.
There is a product called Azek, that is a plastic, I think, and I think it comes in decorative motifs like Victorian. I think there is an add for it in the latest issue of Fine Homebuilding (www.azek.com). I just got my issue of JLC today and they have an ad in there for Tanza PVC trim that even showed some gingerbread (http://www.bluelinxco.com).
Another thing I like is called MDO (for "medium density overlay"--also called "signboard") which is plywood with phenolic resin impregnated paper faces. It takes paint very well. You could cut out your "gingerbread" with a jigsaw. Then you could attach it to a 1x face frame.
