I have a 60-year old house whose soffits are vented with periodic patterns of drilled holes covering an area of approximately 8×12 inches. The holes are roughly 1 inch in diameter and there is no screening behind them to keep out bugs and small animals/birds. They are essentially inaccessible from inside the roof because of the way the rafters run over the top plate of the wall. What I’d like to do is cover the holes from outside with some sort of a grill that would incorporate or could accept some wire mesh. The idea being to add a nicer look to the house and keep out animals. But I can’t find anything on the web or at local building stores. Does anyone have any suggestions? I can paint wood, but would prefer metal, and something at least a little attractive; as there are roughly 16 places I’d need to put them.
Thanks.

Try your local HVAC supplier. They have about 20 times as much stuff as the big box. There's sure to be a grill there you approve of.

Thanks. Good suggestion. I'll check it out.
