Ranch House Trim Upgrade (post #176132)

We are remodeling a 50's ranch house. The windows and doors all have the trim I have shown in the photos and a simple 3/4 round baseboard.

I would like to make the trim a little more interesting without overdoing it. I was thinking of 3 1/4" square trim around with a stool and apron.

Does anybody have any suggestions? It seems that everybody agrees that ranch house trim leaves a lot to be desired, and that one must stay simple to update it, but I'm hoping to find a source for actual suggestions.
