Hi! this is my first time in a chat forum and i look forward to meeting people like myself who love construction and all of its challenges!
I have a question….I have designed a front porch w/ an arched canopy and was wondering if anyone has built anything like that…….We are trying to decide if we should fabricate the framework out of steel to accomodate the curve but don’t know if there are any easier possibilities…… at your mercy! Thanks!!!!

Forgive my cutting and pasting, but I say this so many times, I'm tired of retyping it!--
You'll get a lot more responses if you post this at Breaktime--go to the green box at the top of this page and click on "Breaktime" (right after "Other Taunton Sites:"). You'll probably get more answers than you'll know what to do with! (I'd post it under "Construction Techniques.")
My take on it is that you could cut the arches out of wood (may have to glue up several layers) with a bandsaw. I'm sure you'll get lots of responses at Breaktime--sounds like a fun project. They like pictures, so if you have any, you may want to attach them to your post. Also describing the height, width, length will make them happier! They like lots of facts over there!
I re-read you post and thought maybe you could get a commercial awning fabricator to make you and a canopy--or maybe even a boat place becasue there are lots of boats with canopies. That may be cheaper than designing something out of wood or hiring a home builder to do it.
could you post a pic of what you have in mind. I'm a carpenter, I do lots of framing, I should be able to give you a good idea what your options are. If not go on breaktime, post your question there and there are lots of guys very eager to help.
thanks! i will get a picture to you and/or post it a bit later!
