need info on repairing mortar cracks on a bedford stone home. what to use and how to apply

This is known as "pointing" or "tuck-pointing".  Google those terms and you'll probably find a lot of info.

And not sure what magnitude the cracks are..........

but, tuckpointing is something to be concerned about and can be taken care of by a novice.  However, doing it so nobody knows you did it takes a bit of skill and care.

Cracks in the mortar joint might be something to be more concerned with.

how bad are these 'cracks'?
