We have an old house (130 yrs) that has painted brick and a stone base. The previous owners painted over the stone base and now the paint is peeling and chipping. My question is, how would one go about removing all this paint from the foundation of the house? Should we scrape it off, have it sand blasted, or water blasted? Also, will the paint that falls off effect our foundation plants and garden? Our neighbors on either side have sister houses (identical to ours and built the same year) and their stone is unpainted and looks great. I would love a quick solution to removing the paint without having it be too toxic or time consuming! Probably dreaming but just thought someone out there might have a solution. Thanks in advance.

I've used a pressure washer in these situations, and they work well.Just be sure to rent one with a high enough psi rating, around 2200 to 3000 should work. If your house is very old, the the brick/stone mortar may get blasted away and need re-pointing. If you suspect lead in the paint, then cover all plants with tarps and wear protection(a good respirator).
