paint suggestions

jojo5218's picture

I have a design issue that I need some help with. We just moved and have a huge guest bedroom with wall to wall dark green carpet. The carpet is  like new and we don't want to spend the money right now to replace. Any suggestions on paint colour to take the focus off the carpet.

Please help...

I'm not an interior designer or anything, but as an artist, I would say that to make the carpet less apparent, you should paint the walls a lighter shade of the same green as the carpet.

[Origionally I said that I would probably consider some shade of red to compliment the carpet--however, that may actually make the carpet stand out more. So I thought about it and think that a lighter green would do it.]

I'm no designer either.  I like Danno's suggestion of a lighter green paint, in the same color family so it doesn't clash.  (Bring home green paint chips to match the darker and go up the chip for a lighter compliment.  Further, when considering fabrics, if you can find something that integrates the darker and lighter green with a nice complimentary color, it could be quite nice.  If done successfully, the carpet color should not take center stage.  Have fun and good luck!

I am ashamed to admit that we have a dark green bedroom that we never liked but never got around to painting.  Instead I have had to work with the green for the past 10 years.  It turns out that there are a lot of beautiful floral patterns that encorporate green.  So you can leave the rug and work with it with a pattern that you love.  But I wouldn't paint the walls green as well.  I'd paint them white or some palest of pale color and work with beautiful prints in curtains, bedspreads, and maybe even a border.

You should prefer some lighter shade it will look great with that combination.

A nice garish dark PURPLE (post #175877, reply #6 of 7)

A nice garish dark PURPLE will take the focus off the carpet for sure.

Some black lightw will help also.

And be sure to popcorn the ceiling and paint a HOT pinK.

And BTW, that carpet is now 11 years old, so you could just replace it now?
