Hi, I am trying to come to come to a conclusion as to what kind of counter tops I want in my kitchen. I live in a home over 125 years old and it is decorated very primitively. I want to keep my old cabinets, but want to put in new countertops. I just can’t make up my mind as to what kind to get. ANY SUGGESTIONS??????? Thalnk you, Kitcher

Hi, just a note about me since I am new. We have lived in our home for over 46 years and have remodeled and added on to it several times. Now we are going to put new countertops in the kitchen and a shower in the master bath. I am always looking for new ideas and thought this web site would be perfect for that. Thank you, Kitcher
My husband and I are thinking about making our own teak kitchen counter top with a rectangular cut-out for an undermount apron sink. Is this doable or are we nuts? My husband is pretty handy with the woodworking has made bookshelves and small tables. We checked out a local lumber yard that has nice thick teak but they mentioned that teak is really hard to sand ( due to gumming)? Any experience any one? Also, would we use many coats of oil initially, or should we use some manmade synthetic to finish it. Will a bottle of olive oil left on the counter for an hour leave a mark, how bout a wine glass ring? Would appreciate any information any one has on working with teak.
What about soapstone? It is a beautiful material and historically accurate for an older home. It does scratch but they can easily be buffed out. Jay
