Toto toilet moans like a tuba (post #183461)

Friends:

A three year old Toto Ultramax, served through a 1 year old ceramic quarter turn cutoff started recently started moaning like a child blowing on a tuba. The noise happens in the tank, towards the end of a refill. It lasts for several seconds, and then stops when the tank is full.

The noise is loud enough to be heard all over a decent-sized house.

I have checked to see that the cutoff valve is turned all the way on.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to stop this?

Sounds like somehow you have the perfect conditions for a resonant frequency. Some combination of the piping in the wall, the angle stop, the fill valve in the tank, and the rate of water flow. I would try turning the angle stop off a little, and/or replace it with a different type. Might also help to restrict the fill valve a little bit. Slowing the water flow will probably make a difference.

I have tried various combinations of water pressure -- valve openings, and none help. Some hurt.

Guys and gals:

A happy ending.

A contractor friend today suggested that a highly-engineered product like a Toto probably came with a tech support desk to maintain its reputation. As before the tuba in the pipes we had no problems at all with any of our three (only one blockage in nearly 3 years), I have never thought about it. SO I looked and sure enough, a support number. SO I called, and sure enough, a live native English-speaking support guy. He first suggested I remove and clean a filter that I did not know existed, and call him back. I did. and it didn't work. SO I called back. Same guy. he said words to the effect of, "Hmmm. It shouldn't do that. Your toilet is a bit out of warranty but I'll send you a replacement fill valve anyway. What's your address?"

How could you ask for more?

Count me as a strong Toto fan.
