I have just ripped up all my flooring down to the original concrete slab. I have spent hours scrubbing and removing all of the slab’s past sins (paint splatters, carpet glue, tile residue) and now I want to apply a high gloss, waxy finish that is beautiful, durable and easy to maintain. Where do I start? Any success stories out there?

Hi cc,
Nope, I don't have that experience, but I have seen a high gloss applied and it does look good.

Full-fledged,
I contacted Kemiko Concrete Stain (advertised on page 21 of the premier issue of Inspired House). I am anxious to hear what they have to say. I'll keep you posted.
Cheers,

Yes, I remember that in the magazine, it was pretty.
I don't think my back can handle concrete, and tile is not much better, but I think I shall have to find a way around all this hardness."Whiskey for my men, and beer for my horses"Willy Nelson and Toby Keith
What about the new epoxy sealers for the concrete. The colors are intense and gorgeous. I've seen some that have sparkly stuff even. I'd love that for the garage. :)
I was involved with an organization a few years ago and we were in a space with concrete floors. We ripped up the old carpet and scraped the glue but didn't really remove it all. We waxed the floors with a liquid wax that simply mopped on. There was no buffing required. This material was purchased at Costco, and sorry, I don't remember the name of it. It was not expensive at all. It was also very easy to apply. This stood up OK for about a month, but bear in mind that ours was a commercial space. Not a lot of foot traffic, but much more than a home... and with shoes.
I'd not hesitate to go this route again.
I'd be interested to hear how you do your floors and how they come out. We have a slab foundation. We expect the money for our kithcen and master bedroom additions to run out before we can finish the floors an planned. We plan on having to stained and sealed the concrete floors for a while.
I was in a beauty salon the other day and the floors were done with stain. One of the hair dressers had done it himself and said that it was the easiest thing to do. He covered 2100 sf for $175!
I understand that there is some sort of powder that you cast over the surface while the cement is curing which will give it a marbled effect. He actually scored several large diamond sections in the cement (about 4 feet apart) and used a slightly darker stain on these areas. He sealed it and applied a heavy layer of wax, then buffed. It looked really good.
We were in Mickey Gilley's theatre in Branson, MO a couple of years ago and the entire floor was done is this beautiful lapiz blue with small golden flecks and it was just gorgeous.
I worry about the old back too, but how much harder could this be than tile? Any experiences?
I just found this website. The product looks interesting.http://acidstainconcrete.com
