I am about finished with mudding, taping, and sanding. I want to apply an orange peel spray on finish with a hopper spray texture gun and air compressor. I have two questions.
What material would you recommend I use to spray? Friends have recommended dry – mix your own Sheetrock drywall compound (I think it is referred to as Durabond). Home Depot Guy recommended using Sheetrock premixed all-purpose drywall compound. I would like to use something very durable – I have two small children.
Should I seal the drywall with a PVA primer before texturing the wall? The home depot guy recommended applying PVA primer before texturing, but I think it would make more sense to prime the wall after texturing.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated, as this is the first time I have finished drywall.
Thank You.

hello KH!
My response is not what you asked for directly, but I thought I would throw this out anyway. Since you said that you wanted it to be very durable because you have children, have you thought of installing beadboard plywood wainscotting below a chair rail? It is a classic look, perfect for children and impossible to damage as it is plywood. DH and I installed it last summer and it is so good looking and very very tough.
A friend of mine did the orange peel spray finish and I know that he primed it after the texturing. Good luck!
Prime before texture. Reason is the small drops of texture lose moisture too quickly to unprimed drywall and develop small cracks and poor adhesion.
Smile. It could be worse. You could be me working for you.
