new flooring for an old Cape Cod cottage
new flooring for an old Cape Cod cottage (post #176392)
hazel8 on Sun, 12/10/2006 - 00:59
My family has a 1920's cape cod cottage with the original knotty pine paneling and awful brown linoleum. We want to put in new flooring that will hold up well to sand, moisture, general abuse and neglect-but that will still look good. Does such a material exist...any suggestions? Hazel8

Slate? Tile? There's not too much that will look good with sand on it & someone walking over it, grinding it into the surface. You might consider leaving the present floor covering in place and getting a couple of large, inexpensive rugs. You can take them outside and beat them or hit them with a pressure washer when they get too grubby.

Thanks Ray- I was thinking of putting bighter linoleum on top of the dark brown we have in there now...I think you are right, sand and dirt will just make a mess of everything...Hazel8
