DGK in Guatamala

bobhallsr's picture

Mer, this is the part of the forum for running off subject.  Like the Gazebo in OTF.  Not that the gardeners pay much attention to staying on subject

DGK (dear grand kid) just got back from Guatamala on her semester break.  She did a pretty good job of steering away from tourist type places.  She went to an indian market where they told her ther was nothing for touristas.  She told them, "Yes there is.  My madre is a weaver. "  That got their attention and they sold her tie dyed cotton warp with the most interesting patterns in it.  I'm sure that it will be a b*** to warp the loom with that stuff and get it right.  Anyway, DGK told Tish that she got her enough so that she could make mistakes while she experimented with it.

She sounds like a great person. :) I would love to travel to Guatamala. I bet she has some wonderful stories about her trip. I love fabrics too. I'm not a weaver or a sewer, but I certainly admire it.

BTW, where in southern MD are you? I graduated from St Mary's.

I'm in La Plata.  We had a Garden Fest at my place (Blossom Hill) in October of 02.

Our Choral group used to go to St Marys and sing for the Maryland Day celebrations.  Spent a lot of time there crabing in the summer.  Now I take my DGKs to the archeology digs when they have hands on days for the kids.
